The Welcome Back to DnD thread

Haha I was joking. I had to poke fun given the chance

Lol that would have been a dark ending!

And do al of us need to create new character sheets, or just those who are making characters for the first time?

I personally recommend we all make a new character. I also recommend you use pcgen and tell it to use the default pathfinder template. I also highly recommend that all of you try to get your hands on the pathfinder core rules book or pdf. You can message me privately to find out where you can find it.

In all honesty, I was reading Lovecrafts Necronomicon at the time I was formulating the questline for Ravenhome with the cult taking inspiration from both the Cthulu cult from Shadow of Cthulu and Oblivions Mythic Dawn (Opening the gates to oblivion). All in all there was potential for things to get very dark.

Other inspirations included:

Abdullah the fallen paladins plot arc: Inspired by Lady Aribeth from Neverwinter Nights

The cultists sword taking control of Abdullah: Inspired by Frostmourne from Warcraft 3

Locations such as the Act1 monestary catacombs and Act2 Desert location: Inspired by Diablo 2.

wow… lots of text hidden away there by spoilers… As a potential player, I shouldnt be reading that should I?

Spoiler text relates to what was planned in the previous campaign for who ever is curious.

I am working on a new campaign for the comming game so feel free to read it if you want closure.

Just a suggestion guys, We should standardize what text colors we will be using for what now. We should have a text color for non player interaction related stuff, aka, asking the GM what our rolls where etc. One for out of roelpayer player interaction, saying what we will be doing, introducing our characters at the beginning of the game, discussing our next course of action, a color for our roleplayer player interactoin (what our characters say and now what we the players know and think/say) and finally, one for the official narrative (used exclusively by the GM, aka, Severok in this case.

What’s the time commitment that goes into this for players?

Player commitment is kept fairly minimal typically.

In the last game we were happy to split the party so more active players could investigate while less active players could do stuff in the background at a slower pace.

The most demanding we will be on you is during combat, during which we are wanting to run combat in realtime meetups. But these will be fairly irregular and at times best fitting for a majority of the involved characters.

Actually, as interesting as all this is, I have to back out. I just have too much on my plate right now :frowning:

I understand, but roll up a character anyway if you get the chance using the pcgen software and I will keep him aside for you.

If ravenhome is any indication we will be playing this for the next year. We can enter you in mid quest or have you play a bit role on an encounter.

Is a shame for you to miss out entirely as dnd was originally your idea and the point of forum based dnd is to include the maximum number of people with the minimum obligations.

whats the word on the expansion classes? Ninja, samurai, etc?

And that’s one of the things I like about the forum based version. Being able to split the group based on how much time they have available. if you lived in the EST I would get absolutely nothing done at work because I’m always refreshing MG waiting for the next prompts lol

Okay, fine, you win

What’s the PCgen link again?

If I can stat it, you can do it.

If you can reference it in the manuals then no need to ask. If you can’t then we will talk about making something work.

I am currently wondering if there is a class that lets PCs catch and train animals to fight.

Just make sure you have it set using the pathfinder template

I believe any class that has the handle animals as the class trait, such as rangers, Also I believe sorcerers and wizards can summon familiars.

Ranger or Druid would be best if that I guess.
Although they might be morally opposed to the idea of trying to catch em all.

A wizard specialising in the Illusion school might also work if they get to a high enough level.

" Hunter: Combining the natural skills and animal
mastery of the druid and the ranger, the hunter teams up
with a devoted animal ally to confront the enemies of the
wilds. Players who want an animal companion to be their
character’s focus should consider this class."

Also, are we allowed to use the “Purchase” method for generating ability scores, and if so, what type of campaign are we running? (pg 15-16 of book)

I downloaded the pcgen and am fiddling with it. Also, I jumped on the pathfinder humble bundle, so I basically have all the books in digital form (with no one to play with T-T).

I’m not sure if they qualify as sharable, considering the content on HumbleBundle is typically drm free. Would have to check.

I am kicking myself for not picking up the pathfinder bundle when it was avaliable.

I just picked up the Vampire Masquerade bundle, partially because I don’t want to miss out a similar opertunity again and partially to see if I can inspire any campaign hooks for future games.

Strangely though after buying the complete bundle, I attempted to download one with the download link instead opening the browser to an online store where I can buy the single eBook for more than I just paid for the bubdle.
So either their links are broken or humble bundle just changed me $15 for a series of links to an online store.

For those curious, Vampire Masquerade is a tabletop DnD varient set in the modern era focused around Vampires and classic western horror elements like werewolves. The story lines usually focus around clan politics and the like.

Edit: I got it working now. For some reason the page listing the purchased books directly after ordering the bundle like me to an online store when viewed on mobile. Accessing my humble library directly instead of using that list gavr me links to the ebook and epub files

I have almost worked out a setting I like for the new campaign along with some basic plot points and hooks.
